RALS- Robotics and Automation Leaders Symposium #SPEAKER 2

An exhilarating session by Er.Robin Tommy, Head of Rapid lab,TCS Research and Innovation. The session began with the structural design implementation of MVP-2 followed by the Rada Evolution. He explained his journey as a robotics architect and consultant developing the first humanoid from the TATA group. The session proved to be engrossing and highly informative to the attendees, which was very clear from the queries they raised during the Q & A session.

Role of Robotics and AI in lives of people with ASD.

An altruistic session that unravels the potential of Robotics and Brain Interface in the betterment of those suffering from Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a group of developmental disabilities that can affect the overall cognitive, emotional, social and physical health of a person. A guidance talk regarding the ‘Funding opportunities in IEEE and its technical societies’ piloted by Dr. Biju K, Treasurer, IEEE Kerala Section. The session was intended to illustrate a bigger picture regarding ‘Funding opportunities in IEEE and its technical societies’. Dr. Biju K throughout his presentation rendered the addressal of maximum available options concerning funding for IEEE members and entrepreneurs.

RALS-Robotics and Automation Leaders Symposium

An elating session by Dr. Roshy John, Global Head, Robotics and Cognitive Systems, sharing his views and experience in the field of robotics and automation. Dr. Roshy started off the session by condemning the unrealistic perceptions of robotics and automation set in pop culture, but also those norms “challenge us to develop much more super amazing things”.

The speaker then swayed his astute talk towards the products of AI – being “human-centric, users, data and machine learning”, these aspects gradually improved the cycle of data analysis. He then gave a brief peek on the story of evolution of programming languages and the current trend of data-driven systems.

The speaker ended his session by giving an insight to all robotic enthusiasts, to work on business problems and learn to solve them to cope with the needs. He asked the crowd to “embrace technology and not become it”.

2021 Activities Flag OFF

IEEE RAS Kerala Chapter officially flagged off its 2021 Activities on Monday, 15/02/2021 at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom, virtual platform. Ms.Sarada Jayakrishnan, Chairperson, IEEE KS, consented to be the Chief Guest. She launched the official website of IEEE RAS KC and released the promo video of 2021 Talk series. Dr.Roshy John, Global Head, Robotics and Cognitive Systems, TCS was the Guest of Honour and the resource person of the first session of RALS.

Over 150 participants including RAS SB Leads and IEEE members from various colleges took part in the program. The event concluded at 8:30 p.m. after the virtual photo session.

An official meeting of the ExCom members of IEEE RAS Kerala Chapter with the RAS SB leads. Key decisions taken include making RAS distinguished with the conduct of unique events. The members also pledged to conduct Distinguished Lecturer Program (DLP) and arrange talk series by leaders(RALS), entrepreneurs(Master Talks)and students(Voice It).

Important proposals were made such as encouraging students to apply for design patents as an inter or intra activity and conduct technical events such that they ensure continuity. The ExCom welcomed the valuable suggestions made by the SB leads.
